History
Origins[]
Haruka Hida obtained arachnid-based superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider.[5] Not long after this, her father was murdered in front of her by a Hydra agent,[3] after which she was taken in by her Aunt Mei and Uncle Tsutomu.[4] Dedicating herself to her father's philosophy of "With great power there must also come great responsibility." and the pursuit of justice, Haruka became the superhero Sakura Spider.[3]
Samurai Squad[]
After two years, she was recruited into the Samurai Squad by Iron Man, but was horrified to learn she was being partnered with Deadpool. Despite being frustrated by his antics, by working together they managed to foil a bank robbery until they were attacked by Loki, who attempted to recruit Deadpool to a team of villains he was putting together. Sakura Spider was begrudgingly impressed when Deadpool's apparent bluff of having called the Avengers scared Loki away, and awestruck when Captain America arrived on the scene.[5] Speaking privately with Captain America, Haruka protested Deadpool's recruitment to Samurai Squad but was told that Wade Wilson's bizarre attitude was his way of coping with the grief of having lost everyone he cared about.[6]
Sakura Spider and Deadpool were dispatched to recruit the teenage idol-singer Neiro Aratabi, who was the host of a symbiote she called Kage.[7] Chastising Deadpool not to do anything to embarrass her, Sakura Spider revealed she was a massive fan of Neiro and was accused of having a crush on her by Deadpool. After watching Neiro's performance, she and Deadpool unsuccessfully attempted to sneak past the security guards and were chased outside. Spotting Neiro being attacked by Loki, Sakura Spider used her webbing to sling Deadpool at him before being subdued by the security guards.[8]
To Haruka's delight, Neiro joined the rest of Samurai Squad in protecting an interdimensional portal device from Hydra agents and a clone of Thanos.[9] Returning to base to prepare for the final battle against Loki and his army, Sakura Spider apologized for her early bad attitude towards Deadpool, but was stopped from asking him about his past by Neiro. Haruka was distraught when Neiro abruptly left the team to perform at a concert, and - reflecting on how her attitude towards Deadpool had changed - stepped out into traffic without paying attention and was promptly run over by a truck and a car, leaving her hospitalized.[6] Despite being unable to take part in the final battle, she rallied the Avengers to come to Deadpool's aid,[10] and he in turn expressed confidence that she would be able to handle any villains who tried to threaten Japan in the future.[11]
Third Totem War[]
While on a crime-fighting patrol, Sakura Spider was approached by Madame Web from Earth-616, who informed her that the fate of every Spider was at stake.[3] However, Haruka was stung by one of Shathra's wasps and converted into a Wasp-Totem, joining the dark goddess' Hive.[12]
Personality
Fiery and hot-blooded, Sakura Spider is strongly devoted to being an ideal hero and is easily angered by Deadpool's zany antics, hoping that she can get him to devote himself to being a serious hero like herself.[5] She is indicated to have a crush on the popular idol singer Neiro Aratabi, who she is a huge fan of, and was horrified to learn she was the host of a symbiote.[8]
